HTC recently launched their new smartphone One A9 in Singapore. By using an all-metal unibody design similar to previous HTC's One family, many would argue that it draws inspiration from Apple but in HTC point of view, they are quick to remind us that the first all-metal phone was made by them. The front-facing BoomSound speakers are replaced by a recessed fingerprint sensor which acts as a home button so that users can use either on-screen home button as well.
On the sidebar of the metallic body, it has the rough finishing power button & on top of that is the volume rockers which users can reach easily. By chamfering the corner with smooth, round edges covering the 2.5D glass panel, the smartphone feels flushed & polished to grip.
When it comes to design, there's no deny that the One A9 is the closest Android-powered smartphone in an iPhone 6 like body.
Camera & Display
The phone comes with 13 MP main camera; we applaud HTC for hitting the right note by placing the 4 MP Ultrapixel formally used in the previous model rear camera to the front, which is great for selfie because of more light it can bring in. By applying optical image stabilization (OIS), we get the best camera smartphone HTC had ever produced.
If you want a phone which you can use easily fit your palm, then One A9 is for you. The display is 5.0 inch AMOLED LCD panel with 1920 x 1080 PPI. Although it is not the best display panel in the market, the contrast under sunlight & the viewing angle is easier to see in most conditions, and it will not disappoint you in any way.
Software, Hardware & Price
The HTC One A9 is the fist non-nexus phone to release Android 6.0 Marshmallow installed out of the box due to close collaboration with Google. Besides the obvious live feed update, HTC`s own Sense customization features are gone. Thus making the One A9 as close as stock OS as possible.
Inside the hood, we have Qualcomm's Snapdragon 617, 3GB ram and 32 GB of internal storage to justify the price to performance. The phone is never about flagship performance. Instead, it emphasis on having a mainstream design, an all round user-experience & affordable price point. If you are looking for an iPhone 6 alternative which feels & look the same without losing an arm or leg for it, the One A9 is the best choice on top of the latest OS update factor.
