This time around Google has launched two different Nexus smartphones with two different smartphone manufacturers. The mid range was launched with the collaboration of LG; LG Nexus 5X and the Huawei got the honors of manufacturing the high-end Nexus smartphone. Huawei Nexus 6P is the real deal breaker for its high-end specification and an affordable price tag at just S$830.
Just like its younger brother LG Nexus 5X, the Huawei Nexus 6P offers a broad range of connectivity from GSM to LTE. Unfortunately, it does not have infrared, but it comes with NFC, Bluetooth v4.2 and USB port 2.0.
Nexus series has ditched the IPS LCD, this time, around for 5.7-inch AMOLED display with 1440 x 2560 screen resolution. We are all familiar with color accuracy of AMOLEDs and Huawei has done an excellent job by improving the overall color accuracy which results in top notch display to its users. Images appear sharp with a lot of details in it. There is no color over-saturation or over sharpness of the pictures which is the best thing about Huawei Nexus 6P.
The beautiful unibody design exhibits the typical Huawei design. For some users, 5.7 inches might be too big, and they find it hard to use it with one hand. In a nutshell, it is one beautiful device which knows no borders.
Hardware and Software:
Huawei Nexus 6P offers Qualcomm MSM8994 Snapdragon 810 processor clocked at 1.5 GHz. Though Snapdragon 810 is known for its overheating issues, Huawei claims that they have overcome that problem, and the device won't heat up. Adreno 430 accompanies Snapdragon 810 and will boost up the game playing experience. It is available in 32GB/64GB/128GB internal storage options, and the disappointing part is that it does not support microSD card. Huawei Nexus 6P comes with 3GB internal storage which is the standard these days.
As for the software department, it comes with the latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow. And since it is a Nexus smartphone, therefore, it will get all the upcoming Android updates for at least next couple of years.
Finally, the NEXUS team has come up with a good camera. The primary camera is 12.3 MP just like LG Nexus 5X with laser autofocus. The camera comes with a large sensor which means that it is capable of capturing more details with improved low light image quality. We were also impressed with overall camera results. All images were perfect with the correct amount of details, and there was no noise at all. Low light images came out pretty good with very few or no noise at all.
The front facing 8MP camera is quite good in daylight. However, in low light images had some noise and there were not enough details.
If you are looking for a smartphone with flagship specifications at an affordable price then the Google masterpiece is made for you. Nexus 6P price in Singapore at S$830 is quite reasonable considering its latest OS update guaranteed & powerful performance. However if you`re a photography enthusiast, the main camera function might disappoint you a little as it`s not a camera-centric smartphone but more of an all-rounder device. Thus, you need to know your main priorities before making a decision.
