Apple has done it again - releasing a phone with a powerful A16 Bionic chip that makes it the fastest around. But speed isn't everything, and this phone has plenty more to offer, from its always-on display to its 48MP camera. Plus, with an extra-long battery life, it's sure to keep you going all day long.
This year iPhone 14 Pro Max boasts some pretty significant changes. Firstly, the notch has been replaced by a pill-shaped cutout and, secondly, the camera bump is much larger. All three camera lenses on the back of the phone are larger, as is the flash.
Besides releasing the more commonly known color options for iPhone 14 Pro Max - silver, gold and space black, Apple has introduced deep purple for its flagship phone. All of the colors are elegant and professional-looking, but our personal favorite is the deep purple option. It's a perfect blend of trendiness and forward-looking, and we appreciate the matte glass back and color-matched polished steel sides that Apple uses for its Pro phone.
This is a huge improvement over the previous design, which was simply a large black bar that interrupted the flow of the UI. In addition to being more aesthetically pleasing, the Dynamic Island is also more functional. It provides quick access to various controls and information, making it easier and faster to use your iPhone.
Dynamic Island is not only useful for displaying information, but also making it easy to keep track of your timer, calls, and directions. You can also see two live activities at the same time. This makes it convenient to stay connected to what's going on.
Dynamic Island's extend to other functions as well, such as facial recognition, and the animated UI performed using Face ID are fluid without interference. This is a killer feature and really the main reason to get the iPhone 14 Pro Max over iPhone 14.
Apple is lagging behind in smartphone marketplace development for the iOS 14 Pro's always-on display, but if you have time to set it up, Apple's implementation provides a more advanced experience.
The iPhone 14 Pro Max's display can run all the way down to 1Hz, so Apple developed its own AOD to match the lock screen (in color) to a dimmer glowing light level. Still, you can view your wallpaper, lock screen widgets like weather, calendar, and activity ring, and notifications coming through. The always-on display will automatically black out when the phone is either put in a pocket or upside down on a table.
Overall, Super Retina XDR panel is exceptionally bright and colorful, with a maximum brightness of up to 1,600 nits and support for High Dynamic Range content, as well as up to 2,000 nits of brightness when used outdoors on a sunny day.
Apple has truly revolutionized the world of smartphone photography with its new iPhone 14 Pro Max, which features a 48MP main wide-angle sensor for the first time. By grouping every four pixels into a quad-pixel, the sensor is able to optimize for better light capture in 12M. The new iPhone camera is a big improvement over previous models as it permits users to take high-quality pictures in all kinds of lighting conditions. By switching from 48MP to Pro RAW mode, the main camera will give you the best level of detail, especially if you need to crop the image.
The camera's 48-megapixel sensor functions with a new 2x zoom option at 12MP 3x telephoto zoom, but you cannot get the extra zoom obtainable in the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra's 10x dual optical setup.
In addition to featuring a new 12MP ultrawide camera that is nearly double the size, the iPhone Pro Max's 12MP TrueDepth camera now offers autofocus and a faster f/1.9 aperture for photos taken in low-light settings.
The A16 Bionic chip powers a Photonic Engine which results in taking brighter and more colorful photos in low-light, a big improvement from the previous phone model.
If you want to take 48MP photos, you have to enable Apple ProRaw and set the ProRaw resolution to 48MP in the Settings app. It would be easier to do this from within the camera app, but once it is enabled, you can select between RAW and normal photos in the camera app.
The iPhone 14 Pro Max contains the A16 Bionic chip, which is the first such chip ever constructed using a 4-nanometer process. It is the fastest chip ever built in any phone.
If you are in the market for a phone with a large screen, the iPhone 14 Pro Max should be at the top of your list. The display is excellent and always-on, the cameras are some of the best available, and you can expect extended battery life. What I love most about the iPhone 14 Pro Max is the Dynamic Island feature. This saves you time from having to exit out of one app and open another just to get key bits of info. As more developers join in, this feature will only continue to get better.
The new Action mode for smoother footage and the even sharper Cinematic mode are both great features for those who enjoy shooting video. The always-on display is also a handy feature, even if it requires a little extra effort to get it the way you want.
